Plot

DUNKIRK opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea, they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in. The story unfolds on land, sea and air. RAF Spitfires engage the enemy in the skies above the Channel, trying to protect the defenseless men below. Meanwhile, hundreds of small boats manned by both military and civilians are mounting a desperate rescue effort, risking their lives in a race against time to save even a fraction of their army.

Bruce's note: I finally got a chance to watch this one. Loved it. The story is based on history, but it is told cinematically in a very unigue way. Fans of Christopher Nolan's Memento will recognize a certain style of his, but I won't give it away!

The movie has striking little dialog but the story is perfectly clear through watching the events unfold. It effectively makes it's "war is hell" point with minimal gore. You don't need to graphically watch someone get his brains blown out to know it happened. If you like historical dramas you shouldn't miss this. Potential Oscar nominee, I think.
